Center- Day 13

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord...”

Psalm 27:4

Have you ever daydreamed about what you would do if you really could find a genie in a lamp that would grant you three wishes? We really only need one- “I wish that I could have everything I ever want.” What a mess that would be! We can all probably think of something that we have wanted that we would have regretted if we had gotten it. There is even a song that says, “Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.” But in this Psalm, King David shares the one thing we really ought to desire and seek after, and that is to be in the presence of God, gazing at His beauty. Nothing else compares. This is the “one thing” we should all desire above everything else. As we gaze on His beauty, we are reminded of His faithfulness. This Psalm ends with, “I will remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:13-14). Lord Jesus, give us this confidence today.

Daily Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for who you are and all you have done for me. Help me to honor you and keep you the center of everything I say, do, and think today. As I choose to make you the center of my life, help me to be a reflection of you to those around me. Today, I thank you for _______, and I ask that you would _________.
