The Great Invitation
Scripture:
1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore, do not be partners with them.
Ephesians 5:1-7
Devotional:
Ephesians 5 is not merely instruction — it is invitation. It calls us higher, deeper, and closer to the heart of God.
Walk in Love
“Be imitators of God, as dearly loved children.”
Before Paul tells us what to do, he reminds us who we are. We are loved children. Everything flows from that identity. We do not perform for love — we live from love.
Christ “loved us and gave Himself up for us.” Love, in the Kingdom, is always sacrificial. It gives more than it takes. It serves rather than demands. When selfish ambition, impurity, or greed surface in us, they reveal areas that have not yet been surrendered to love.
Today, ask yourself: Where is the Lord inviting me to love more like Jesus?
Walk in Light
“You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.”
Salvation is more than behavior modification. It is transformation. You are not merely someone who escaped darkness — you are someone who now carries light.
Light produces:
- Goodness
- Righteousness
- Truth
When Christ shines through us, hidden things are exposed — not to shame us, but to heal us.
“Awake, O sleeper…” Sometimes revival is simply waking up again to who we already are in Him.
Today, pray: Lord, shine on any area of my life that needs Your light.
Walk in Wisdom
“Be very careful, then, how you live… making the most of every opportunity.”
Wisdom lives with eternity in mind. It treats time as sacred. It asks, What matters in light of forever?
Paul then gives a powerful command: “Be filled with the Spirit.” The language implies ongoing action — keep being filled. The Spirit-filled life is marked by worship, gratitude, and humility.
A full heart sings. A grateful heart thanks. A surrendered heart submits.
A Reflection on Marriage and the Gospel
Paul describes marriage as a profound mystery reflecting Christ and the Church. Husbands are called to love sacrificially. Wives are called to trust and honor. Both are called to mutual submission in reverence for Christ.
Leadership in God’s Kingdom looks like the cross. Love is proven in self-giving. Whether married or single, this passage reveals the heart of Jesus — a Bridegroom who lays down His life for His beloved.
Reflection:
Ephesians 5 calls us to:
- Love that sacrifices
- Light that shines
- Wisdom that redeems time
- Spirit-filled living that overflows
This is not heavy religion — it is radiant relationship.
The Spirit is inviting you today to walk differently, not because you must, but because you can. You are loved. You are light. You are filled.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to walk in love, shine in light, and live in wisdom. Fill me again with Your Spirit, that my life may reflect Jesus. Amen.
